Spooky craft projects and decorations don’t need to leave a scary dent in your pockets! We’ve put together a list of fun and affordable Halloween activities to keep all ages busy and creative this Halloween season.

For each of these crafts, the materials needed can be sourced from a charity shop, a superstore, or your own home. Remember to work safely with hot water and wax, especially if you’re crafting with little ones!

Ghoulish ghost candles

Difficulty level: Easy

Time to create: 15 minutes.

Materials needed:

  • Long candles
  • Glass dish
  • Sharpie pen
  • Candlestick holders

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Place your long candles into the glass dish, then cover them in boiling water.
  3. Wait 10 minutes for the water to cool.
  4. Pick up your candle and mould into whichever shape you would like your ghost to be.
  5. Use your sharpie to add a ghost face.
  6. Place in your candlestick holders.
  7. Enjoy your spooky ghosts!

Cute wool pumpkins

Difficulty level: Easy

Time to create: 15 minutes.

Materials needed:

  • Wool
  • Toilet roll
  • Small stick
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Cut a toilet roll in half with your scissors.
  3. Cut some wool and wrap around the toilet roll until it is fully covered in wool. Tuck any leftover wool inside.
  4. Squash and pull the wool until you are happy with the shape.
  5. Place your stick into the top of the pumpkin.
  6. Enjoy your new cute pumpkins!

Spooky skeleton hand

Difficulty level: Easy

Time to create: 10 minutes.

Materials needed:

  • A4 paper
  • Scissors
  • Pen

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Draw an outline of your hand on the A4 paper.
  3. Use your scissors to cut out your shape.
  4. Fold along where your finger creases.
  5. Pinch the crease in the other direction to create a bony look.
  6. Fold the palm where each finger is.
  7. Enjoy your creepy skeleton hand!

Haunted paintings

Difficulty level: Medium

Time to create: 15- 45 minutes (depending on the artist!)

Materials needed:

  • Old landscape painting
  • Paint brushes
  • Paints

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Have a think about what spooky things you could add to your picture. We added ghosts and pumpkins.
  3. If you are unsure about what to add, why not sketch a few designs in pencil first?
  4. Get painting.
  5. Enjoy your new décor!

Skeleton hot tub candle: 

Difficulty level: Advanced

Time to create: 20 minutes.

Materials needed:

  • Small skeleton (ensure it fits in your chosen bowl!)
  • Bowl
  • Two candles
  • Two pieces of spaghetti or similar
  • Kettle
  • Jug
  • Large dish

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials.
  2. Place your candles in the large dish and pour boiling water to surround the candles.
  3. Wait until the water has cooled.
  4. Tip the candles, and the wax should fall out of the jar.
  5. Peel the cooled wax away from the wick. Keep the wick separate.
  6. Place the wax into a jug and pour boiling water into the jug.
  7. While the water is cooling, set your candle up. Place the skeleton and wicks in the desired position, propping the wick up with your spaghetti.
  8. When the wax has risen to the top of the jug, pour it carefully into the bowl.
  9. Leave to dry for 2 hours.
  10. Enjoy your new candle!
